I recommend that you should read the novel `Godaant written by Munshi Prem Chand. This novel paints a good and realistic picture of Indian village life. The hero of the novel, Hori, is a simple farmer. He suffers his life because he is exploited by the zamindar, the money lenders and other people. His bullocks and land sold. He has to work hard as a labourer. Even his son leaves him and goes to. Lucknow. In the end, he dies. There are some other memorable characters also in the novel.
