Ans:-                                                   BELLING THE CAT

Once upon a time, they lived many rats in a certain place. They were very happy. They were enjoying to their heart’s content. They had no woe. Then one day a wild black cat came to the place. She saw hundreds of rats. She felt happy that her day to day food problem was solved very beautifully. She had not to go from place to place in search of her food. She had an ample number of rats here. She started killing them and eating them. She killed many, ate a few. She grew very fat in a couple of days.

The rats were fed up with this devilish cat. They wanted to get rid of her. They thought of a way out They called a meeting of all rats at the dead of night. Each rat gave his candid opinion to fight the menace of the cat. Some said, “Attack her unitedly”, other’s said something else. But nothing came out concrete and useful.

Then all of a sudden a youthful rat spoke with gusto. ‘Bell the cat, as and when she comes, the bell will ring, we shall hear this sound and will hide.” This speech impressed everyone present there except one old rat who said, “Who will catch hold of the neck of the cat and tie the bell?” This was something very, serious. None was prepared to do this difficult job. When they (rats) were in the meeting, the cat got a clue, felt something fishy. She came running and pounced on all of them. She killed most of them.

Moral: Who will bell the cat?
