You have been asked to write a short story titled ‘Believing in People’ for your school magazine, using the information given below along with your own imagination.

Outline: A tycoon — announced — displayed on hoardings — stated he would pay off debts of the person — meets him at the appointed time — businessman sat in office — no one came — at II a person came — asked if he would pay off any person’s debt — the visitor produced the documents — businessman wrote a cheque — before two more men came and their debts paid — people outside couldn’t believe it and suffered — if you don’t believe in goodness of man — you can’t believe in goodness of God either.

Ans.                                                                      Believing in People

A business tycoon in a small town hung hoardings at various public places. They stated that if any person in the town, who owed debts, would come to his office on a certain day between nine and twelve in the morning, he would pay off those debts. Naturally, that promise became the talk of the town. But it was an incredible promise. So, few believed it. People suspected his integrity. The day came. The businessman sat in his office at nine. By then, no one had come. At eleven, a man was seen walking up and down outside, occasionally looking up at the office door. Finally, he seemed to summon the courage and open it. He put his head in and asked, “Is it true that you will pay of any person’s debt?” “That’s right,” the rich man replied. “Are you in debt?” “Certainly I am,” the man answered. “Do you possess the bills and statements to prove it?” The visitor produced the documents and the businessman wrote out a check covering all of them. Before twelve o’clock, two other men came and had their debts paid. People outside could not believe it. But now there was no time left to have their bills paid. If people don’t believe in the goodness of man, how can they believe in the goodness of God?
